Duxton Hotels International is owned by Singapore publicity listed Low Keng Huat (Singapore) Ltd, a long established participant in the Singapore construction industry.
The principle activities of the Low Keng Huat (Singapore) Ltd consist of general building contracting and investment holding, project management, property investment, investment holding, property development, and provision of hotel management services.
Construction projects which Low Keng Huat (Singapore) Ltd has been responsible for includes New Tech Park, the Malaysian Airlines Systems Building, the Islamic Centre of Singapore, the Singapore Post Centre, the Overseas Union Bank Tower in Singapore, the Transworld Communication Centre in Shanghai and the Shanghai JC Mandarin Hotel. Low Keng Huat was also responsible for the renovation of Chijmes (a beautifully restored heritage-listed building that is now a popular dining and entertainment destination as well as a historic landmark).
In 1991, the opening of the Duxton Hotel Singapore represented the start of Low Keng Huat (Singapore) Ltd's diversification strategy, and the group's entry into the hotel development and management industry.
The development involved the restoration of eight units of pre-war shop-houses, in the nostalgic Tanjong Pagar Conservation Area of Singapore, into the luxurious 'boutique' Duxton Hotel Singapore.
By the end of 1996, the group included more properties. In Saigon, the Duxton Hotel Saigon, became the first new built hotel in Vietnam for 20 years. Located in the heart of the prime business in Perth, Duxton Hotel Perth, Australia was a full conversion from the old Taxation Department building into a luxurious hotel.
The company is committed to sustainable growth in the Asia-Pacific hotel industry, and is presently reviewing further opportunities for Duxton Hotels in other gateway cities.
